Homestay- Total Immersion Program

Family Homestay

It is one of our keys to success and an integral part of the total immersion experience. The students can have a unique view of living in a middle-class home, native from Antigua, where they will additionally have the experience to share with the Guatemalan culture, traditions, celebrations, meals and much more.

Family Environment

antigua

The approach is personalized. Students will have a direct relationship with the family, share meals, and in some cases, they can be part of other family activities, all depends on the attitude of the students. The opportunity to talk in each meal is available all the time. Family location is excellent, most of the houses are two to four blocks from the school, this means a walk of 10-15 minutes.

The food is healthy, with fresh ingredients and well purified. The food portions are very good for you to be satisfied. The food menus are varied, and they can be designed for students who have special cases such as lactose and gluten intolerance, and also vegetarian students with all its exceptions. Families are experienced in all types of food. Please note that it is very important that the student informs the family and the school if there is any special situation, to be in total control.

The Families

Learning Spanish is easier and fun if you have options to practice, therefore the total immersion that the homestay provide, gives you the opportunity to speak, listen and learn all the time. For that reason, since 1983, we have refined our options to only the best available. Based on student reviews, we only offer the friendliest families, the best locations, and the best overall experience. Considering our students’ comfort and budgets, we have carefully chosen and developed relationships with homestay families in Antigua.

Guatemalan culture

Guatemalan culture and Guatemalan customs are strongly influenced by the history of Guatemala. Guatemalan people are largely mestizo, a mixture of Spanish and Mayan blood, while many villagers are direct Mayan descendants. Guatemalan cuisine, for example, varies depending on the region. However, many traditional Guatemalan foods are based on Mayan cuisine, predominantly featuring ingredients like corn, chilies and beans. The main crop of the Mayan culture was corn maize which continues to be very important today.
